The Two-Week Mark

Blake proposed to me two weeks ago today, in a way that was sentimental, romantic, and pretty much everything I ever wanted from a proposal. And I barely lasted 30 minutes before I was already on my phone, looking up pictures of rings. This was even after I said that we would "just enjoy being engaged" for the evening, as it was also our 6-year anniversary. Welp.

The amount of planning and decision making that has already happened is actually a bit insane - or impressive, if you're one to re-label neurosis as "efficiency". Things are happening at a dizzying pace and it is exhilarating, near to the point of addiction.

Our engagement is slated to last 6 months, which, judging by the surprise and possible alarm on everyone's faces when we tell them, this is apparently way too short. I was informed by several parties that a wedding dress alone takes 6-8 months! That's insane and I can't help but think that if a dress really did take that long, it wouldn't be the perfect dress for *me*. Wedding planning websites like EasyWeddings.com.au (great for sourcing suppliers, by the way) have their To-Do List items starting from 12-18 months before the wedding!

Maybe it's the numerology-obsessed, failed mathematician in me, but I do like the pattern emerging in a 6-year relationship leading into a 6-month engagement that ends on the 12th month of the year. Gosh I'm a nerd.

But really, the honest truth is that we've waited long enough as it is. Blake never wanted a long engagement in the first place, and I've been wanting to have married the poor bastard for the past 2 years. So in some ways, 6 months is also too damned long.
